This page gives illustrative examples of the different types of IP Consulting services that the company has successfully provided in the past for both private sector clients (SMEs to multinationals) and research organisation clients. IP Pragmatics respects the confidentiality of the work it carries out for its clients and so does not disclose clients' names unless this information is already in the public domain.

Dstl - InterAct Partnership

IP Pragmatics manages the InterAct Partnership on behalf of four leading UK government research organisations: Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl); Central Science Laboratory (CSL); Health Protection Agency (HPA); Veterinary Laboratories Agency (VLA). The project aims to identify and commercialise new exploitation vehicles that can be created by combining IP across two or more of the partner organisations. For more information on the project and its successes please see www.interactpartnership.co.uk.

Multinational Client - Patent Portfolio Out-licensing

A multinational company retained IP Pragmatics to assess a portfolio of plant biotechnology patents in order to help the company decide which technologies could be successfully out-licensed and which technologies there was no market for. In the short term this provided the business case for the company abandoning a number of patents, saving significant future costs. More valuably for the company, IP Pragmatics was able to design and lead a successful marketing strategy to find licensees for the remaining technologies.

Institute Client - EU Framework 6 Consortium Agreements

An academic client asked IP Pragmatics to draft, negotiate and conclude consortium agreements on its behalf for two European Framework 6 projects involving 40+ and 50+ partners, respectively, for which it is the coordinator. IP Pragmatics delivered final drafts of the agreements for signature by all parties within budget and on time to allow client to progress its contract negotiations with the EU Commission.

Institute Client - Assessment of Commercial Research Income Opportunities

IP Pragmatics has been working with an academic client to identify how the client can increase its research income from commercial companies. This has involved a review of the internal research offering and the processes for marketing and establishing research contracts. In addition, IP Pragmatics has been interviewing commercial companies in the client's sector to identify the factors that drive their external research funding decisions.
